Types of anxiety disorders

some different types of anxiety problems

It’s a very fortunate person who is able to sail through life without experiencing anxiety or panic every now and then. So far life in the twenty first century would, as they say, “test the patience of a saint”. It is not unusual or surprising therefore that many people suffer these problems.Palpitations of the heart, an all too common result of anxiety and panic, can be frightening and this of course increases the level of anxiety.

an anxiety attck strikes

It is when anxiety attacks begin to re-occur that you are likely to be diagnosed with a chronic anxiety disorder. Upon such diagnoses you are very likely to be prescribed  medication that will not effect a complete cure but will reduce your anxiety level. However, be aware that unwanted side effects from the drugs could also result. Before your can receive anxiety treatment you may need consultation and guidance in recognising the nature of your anxiety. You could be referred to a psychiatrist for this purpose and by now the process could start to become expensive.

general anxiety disorder

This is a condition whereby the sufferer will sometimes experience anxiety attacks without really being able to understand or pinpoint the reason why. Often mainstream medical practice is to prescribe medication that is designed to balance the brain’s chemicals and enable a more normal function or routine to daily life. The word “general” may imply the disorder is a mild form of anxiety but this is not necessarily the case. It can be very debilitating.

Social anxiety disorder

Of the types of anxiety disorders this one can be particularly distressing as it is a normal human condition to interact socially with friends and family. Someone who suffers social anxiety is denied that pleasure when at a gathering say, they begin to feel anxiety growing in the pit of the stomach which could also give rise to heart palpitations and sweating. Their only thoughts are usually how can I escape and be alone, how can I prevent others from realising I have a problem.. Again, there is medication that can be prescribed to help a person live with the problem.

panic disorder

Panic disorder can be a very distressing experience to the extent that some people are convinced they are suffering a full blown heart attack. Frequent panic attacks should not be ignored and again it is likely your medical advisors will prescribe anxiety medication and anti-depressants, and again look out for the side effects that come with prescription drugs.
